Short Desciption
Donja (Lower) Zelina is a village several kilometres south of Sveti Ivan Zelina on the Zagreb-Varaždin road. The curias of the Domjanić and Barać families, the Baroque parish church of St Nicholas on the site of a medieval castle, and St Anne's chapel (built in 1858 on the site of an old wooden chapel) show its rich cultural and architectural past. Donja Zelina developed near the medieval Zelina Castle and the market town of the same name. The former feudal estates, often called Domjanićevo and Baraćevo, are situated on two neighboring hills and are only several hundred meters apart. Domjanićevo has been preserved and is today owned by the Jendriš family, who inherited the Domjanićes on the distaff side. Baraćevo is dilapidated and neglected. The Domjanić curia is part of a former landed property and it has mostly preserved its original spatial, landscape, architectural and cultural values. In addition to the curia itself, the property includes some farm buildings, a park and a drive with newly-planted poplars, all in the lovely Prigorje landscape at a distance from the main road and new construction.
